People taking addiction treatment are more likely to smoke: Study

The findings suggest that substance abuse programs do not sufficiently address tobacco use issues.

"When people come into treatment for drugs and alcohol, we are not treating another addiction that has a significant chance of eventually killing them, which is tobacco use," said lead researcher Joseph Guydish, professor at the University of California, San Francisco, US.

Croatia closes border crossings; migrants continue to stream through

Helpless to stem the flow, Croatian police rounded them up at the Tovarnik railway station on the Croatian side of the border, where several thousand had spent the night under open skies. Some kept travelling, and reached Slovenia overnight.

Migrants have been streaming into Croatia for two days, their path to western Europe via Hungary blocked by a metal fence, the threat of imprisonment and riot police who fired teargas and water cannon on Wednesday to drive back stone-throwing men.

Hundreds evaded Croatian police, trekked through fields and reached the border with Slovenia by train Yesterday, part of a desperate and determined march westwards that is dividing Europe.

Only the main Bajakovo crossing, on the highway between Belgrade and Zagreb, appeared to be open to traffic today, while Slovenia stopped all rail traffic on the main line from Croatia.

Around 150 migrants spent hours overnight stranded at the Dobova railway station on Slovenia's side of the border. Police first said they would be sent back, but then the train proceeded to the town of Postojna, some 50 km (30 miles) southwest of the capital Ljubljana, where there is a refugee centre. http://post.jagran.com/croatia-closes-border-crossings-migrants-continue-to-stream-through-1442562332

Mourinho faces scrutiny after Chelsea's poor start to season

Only four months ago, he was lifting the Premier League title at Stamford Bridge for the third time as Chelsea cruised to its fourth championship, eight points ahead of runner-up Manchester City.

Now, the Blues already trail Manuel Pellegrini's side by 11 after Saturday's 3-1 loss to Everton. It was their third loss of the season, equaling the number from the whole of the last campaign.

Chelsea looked unfit, uninspired and stagnant against Everton, which relentlessly carved up the defending champions. Mourinho, so often a figure of charisma and swagger, was restless and riled, something which is fast becoming a familiar sight. http://post.jagran.com/mourinho-faces-scrutiny-after-chelseas-poor-start-to-season-1442313721

Whale vomit set to fetch 7,000 pounds at auction

The chunk of ambergris - a waxy rock-like substance that can prolong the scent of perfume - was found washed-up on the shore at Anglesey, north Wales, earlier this year.

The ambergris, that measures 8 inches by 6 inches and weighs 1.1 kg, could have been floating in the sea for decades before it came ashore.

Britain to accept more Syrian refugees: PM David Cameron

Cameron, who is currently in Lisbon for talks with his Portuguese counterpart Pedro Passos Coelho, said more details would be set out next week following talks with organisations working in the region.

He may not be able to put a specific number on how many refugees the government is willing to take, but it is expected the government will make a statement on Monday when parliament returns after the summer recess, as media reported.

People selected to come to Britain are likely to be drawn from the UN Refugee Agency camps on the border of Syria and not from the French port town of Calais or other locations near the country.

Cameron reiterated that, since there are reportedly two million Syrian refugees in the Middle East, the ultimate answer does not lie in taking refugees but in finding a political solution within Syria. http://post.jagran.com/britain-to-accept-more-syrian-refugees-pm-david-cameron-1441366747

Cheap labour not enough to drive manufacturing growth, lure investors: Arvind Panagariya

"We are much cheaper then China. Foxconn pays wages three to four dollar an hour... But that is not sufficient. That we can tell you from our own experience. There are also other factors," Panagariya said at a function here.

Elaborating about other factors he said, "Power tariffs in India are very high. If the power tariff is relatively high then price (of product) will go up.

About the cheaper labour he thinks that labour margins (costs) per worker is low so that it could not be the only advantage to attract big investors in the country.

"Furthermore, they offer a more private kind of social interaction than traditional social media platforms such as Facebook or Twitter," the report found. http://post.jagran.com/whatsapp-snapchat-a-rage-among-teenagers-report-1440498208

Karisma Kapoor advises women to take care of stress

Karisma was present as a guest of honour at an interactive session by an eminent panel of doctors discussing the importance of 'Women Wellness' where she spoke on stress.

"Being a young mother and trying to balance everything, I can say that the biggest thing for us women is to take care of stress. We are stressing the moment we wake up. What should we make for food, what would my daughter eat, how do I get them to eat all the nutrients in each and every meal. Stress, according to me, is the toughest thing to deal with”, the actress said.

Karisma's advice to all the women is to eat right and also do physical activities to stay fit and keep away from stress. "My way of de-stressing and being healthy or maintaining wellness is that I do a lot of yoga. I take walks... and being a Kapoor, I love to eat. You may not believe me, but I ate a pizza at my shoot yesterday”, said the 41-year-old. http://post.jagran.com/karisma-kapoor-advises-women-to-take-care-of-stress-1440155029

No compromise on people involved in waving Pakistani flags: Rajnath Singh

"This (incidents of waving of Pakistani flags) happened earlier also (during other governments regime) but it would not be tolerated," he said.

On being asked what India was doing to bring underworld don Dawood Ibrahim back to the country from Pakistan, the minister said Interpol had issued red corner notices against him and many others and the process was on to get hold of the anti-India elements living abroad.

"Whether Dawood Ibrahim, Masood Azhar, or Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, red corner notices have been issued them and India is doing its best to bring them to justice," the Home Minister said.

On whether India would give another dossier to Pakistan on the issue, Singh said, "As of now, there is no such proposal but a dossier has already been given to Pakistan in this regard in 2012".

Rajnath slams Rahul Gandhi for comments on RSS

Replying to Gandhi's accusation that RSS was running the education system in the country, Singh said RSS's ideology considers the whole world as a single family.
"Previous governments used to run by instilling fear among Muslims while we want to move ahead by taking everyone along. We will not discriminate against anyone," said Singh addressing a rally here.

"There are 72 different factions in Islam. Even in Islamic countries, all these factions are not living together. But you can find people of all of these factions in India. This is India's culture," the Home Minister said.
He accused the Congress  for "instilling fear among minorities by taking the name of RSS."

Singh also took a dig at Rahul for his comments on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's frequent foreign tours. "Congress' `yuvraj' claims that our PM lives more in foreign countries than in India. I want to tell him that past PMs visited foreign countries as a political formality, while this PM goes to strengthen the nation," he said.

HC seeks reply of 16 policemen in Hashimpura massacre case

"Issue notice to all the respondents. They are directed to file their reply on July 21," it said.

Earlier, the Court had also issued notice for July 21 to the UP government and the accused on a plea filed by the victims of the massacre and NHRC which sought ordering of a further probe into the matter.

The UP government had approached the High Court last week against the order in which the policemen were held not guilty of the charges of murder, attempt to murder, tampering with evidence and conspiracy in the massacre case in which 42 people were killed in Meerut city.

The government, in its appeal, said that there are "lapses" in the trial court's findings.

On March 21, a trial court gave the benefit of doubt and acquitted 16 ex-Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) personnel accused of killing 42 people in Meerut, saying lack of evidence failed to establish their identification in the case.

Those acquitted in the case were Suresh Chand Sharma, Niranjan Lal, Kamal Singh, Budhi Singh, Basant Ballab, Kunwar Pal Singh, Budha Singh, Rambir Singh, Leela Dhar, Hambir Singh, Mokam Singh, Shami Ullaha, Sarwan Kumar, Jaipal Singh, Mahesh Prasad and Ram Dhayan.
